Meet Danielle - Founder of DG Bioinformatics
Making sense of sequencing data
Danielle is an environmental scientist and bioinformatician whose work sits at the intersection of complex biological data, environmental health, and clear scientific communication. She holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Biotechnology (minor in Biology) from Wilfrid Laurier University, along with an MSc and PhD in Environmental Science from the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) at the University of Windsor. Her research has focused on microbial community structure and function across diverse environmental systems - from oil sands tailings remediation to freshwater sediments and recreational waters, with particular interest in opportunistic pathogens and source tracking.
Her path into bioinformatics was shaped by the evolving demands of her research and a growing interest in data-driven discovery. During her PhD, Danielle deepened her focus on bioinformatics, data processing, and analytical workflows to work with large sequencing datasets. What began as a practical extension of her research quickly became a passion. Through this work, she discovered where she does her best work: transforming complex biological data into clear, meaningful insight through thoughtful analysis and visualization.
